America: The Motion Picture review: Netflix’s animated satire is a total failure – Polygon

2004’s Team America: World Police was a scathing parody of American action movies, but also a legitimately excellent version of the genre’s tropes at work. While ridiculing the concept of American exceptionalism, writers Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and Pam Brady managed to actually defend America’s role as the biggest dicks in a world filled with assholes. Netflix’s animated feature America: The Motion Picture, which releases on June 30, feels like an attempt to walk the same line between mockery and actual jingoism. The aggressively anachronistic and ahistorical movie follows George Washington (Channing Tatum) as he tries to avenge the death of his childhood best friend Abraham Lincoln (Will Forte) by fighting the British forces led by Benedict Arnold (Andy Samberg), who is inexplicab...

Britney Spears father Jamie Spears blames Jodi Montgomery for blocking stars personal care, medical freedom – Fox News

Jamie Spears claims his daughter Britney Spears's court-appointed conservator Jodi Montgomery and her attorney Samuel Ingham III are the ones who have failed to give her freedom to make her own medical and personal care choices under her 13-year conservatorship. In new court documents obtained by Fox News, Jamie, 68, on Monday argued he has no authority over Spears' personal care and medical desires following her bombshell claims made in court on June 23. He claimed he has not had authority because Montgomery "has served continuously as the sole Conservator of the Person of Ms. Spears since September 2019 and continues to serve in that capacity." "Ms. Montgomery has been fully in charge of Ms. Spears' personal care and medical treatment in consultations with Mr. Ingham – and which cons...

Bill Cosby released from prison after Pa. Supreme Court overturns sexual assault conviction – The Philadelphia Inquirer

Bill Cosby was released from prison Wednesday after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned his sexual assault conviction and barred him from being retried. upending the first high-profile celebrity conviction of the #MeToo era. The justices ruled the 83-year-old comedian — who has served more than two years of a three-to-10-year sentence — had been denied a fair trial, citing an agreement struck with a previous prosecutor that the justices said barred Cosby from ever being charged with the 2004 assault of Temple University employee Andrea Constand. Justice David N. Wecht, writing for the majority, said Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele was legally bound by that decade-old promise and therefore should not have brought charges when new evidence surfaced in 2015. Vacatin...

Answers About Masks, the Delta Variant and Breakthrough Infections – The New York Times

The risk of being hospitalized or dying as a result of a breakthrough infection is minuscule (less than .003 percent), based on data collected from the C.D.C. As of June 21, more than 150 million people in the United States had been fully vaccinated against Covid-19. As of that date, the C.D.C. reported that 4,115 patients had Covid-19 vaccine breakthrough infections that resulted in hospitalization or death, including 3,907 who had been hospitalized and 750 who had died. But because the risk of getting Covid-19 after vaccination isn’t zero, some health experts still advise that vaccinated people take reasonable precautions, like wearing a mask in crowded spaces. People who live in areas with low vaccination rates may also want to consider wearing masks in public, where they are more like...

Loki episode 4 after-credits scene and Richard E. Grant’s character, explained – Polygon

Each episode of Loki delivers a new mind-bending twist on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even the mere introduction of the TVA and the sacred timeline radically shook everything we thought we knew about the “Infinity Saga.” And honestly, we’d expect nothing less from a show starring the God of Mischief. But the steady stream of lore-busting on the Disney Plus original has kept one of Marvel’s classic traditions out of the (time) loop: the after-credits scene. Loki season 1 hasn’t needed one — until episode 4. “The Nexus Event” picks back up where episode 3 left off, with the imminent destruction of Lementis-1 and both Loki and Sylvie, the female Loki variant, poised for actual death. By the end of the episode, each variant is left with more questions than answers, and the promise of...

President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Fiege, says the filming of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has begun at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta. Though Ryan Coogler and the majority of the first film’s cast will reprise their roles, a crucial member of the cast will be missing in the second film: the Black Panther himself—the late Chadwick Boseman. “It’s clearly very emotional without Chad,” Feige told Variety before the Black Widow Global Fan Event on Tuesday night. “But everyone is also very excited to bring the world of Wakanda back to the public and back to the fans. We’re g...

Allison Mack sentencing – live: Smallville star jailed for three years for NXIVM role as she slams Raniere – The Independent

(AP)Allison Mack, a TV actress well known for her role in a Superman spin-off series “Smallville”, was sentenced to three years in prison for recruiting women for a spiritual cult, NXIVM. Mack appeared on Wednesday in Brooklyn’s federal court, where she faced charges of sex trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy, and forced labour conspiracy, for which she pleaded guilty to in April 2019, following her arrest in 2018. She was expected to seek credit for cooperating with the case against NXIVM’s leader Keith Raniere. He was sentenced to 120 years in jail last year for sex-trafficking and for demeaning and abusing women who became “slaves” for him. Ms Mack wrote in an apology to victims of NXIVM that it “was the biggest mistake and greatest regret of my life”. “I am sorry to those of...
