BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A widespread snowstorm is hitting Vermont, New Hampshire and New York with strong winds and treacherous road conditions in some areas.
The WCAX Max Advantage Weather Team says the blustery storm that pounded the big New England cities with more than a foot of snow won’t be as strong for us, but they say we will still get our share of snowy and windy weather out of it. Across our region, they expect a range of 5-inches to 14-inches of snow. Click here for the latest forecast from the Weather team and to see what they expect for totals in your area.
The Vermont Agency of Transportation says if you must travel, expect snow-covered roads. They say if you can, delay or postpone travel. They also say if you have to be out, be sure to give yourself extra time and stopping distance.
The snow was really coming down in Plattsburgh Tuesday morning. Our Kelly O’Brien was out along Route 3 where she said visibility was low and the roads were slippery.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued a state of emergency for areas including Clinton and Essex counties in an effort to keep the roads clear of vehicles so plows could do their work without added obstacles.
In his state of emergency, Cuomo also delayed the opening of state vaccination sites in Plattsburgh until 10 a.m, saying appointments will be rescheduled.
In Vermont, officials say vaccination sites will be open on Tuesday, but people concerned about traveling can reschedule their appointments.
Vermont is now giving the vaccine to people aged 75 and older who have registered for appointments. The Vermont Joint Information Center says those who cannot get to their appointments or do not want to travel in the snow should call 855-722-7878 to reschedule. The center says they will be given a new appointment later in the week and will not have to start the registration process over.
As of 7:30 a.m., WCAX News had listings for 192 school closings overall, 157 of which are full closings, four 2 hour delays, and 31 going virtual.
