When Will The Office Be on Peacock and Leave Netflix? – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

The Office may be one of the most-streamed shows on Netflix, but the comedy series is about to jump over to Peacock soon. The new NBCUniversal streaming platform will finally drop on Wednesday, July 15. However, fans won’t get to enjoy Michael Scott (Steve Carell) and the rest of the Dunder Mifflin crew upon launch. So when will The Office be released on Peacock? Here’s what we know.

In June 2019, Netflix confirmed all nine seasons of The Office will be leaving the streaming service starting in January 2021. This means fans can watch the NBC series on Netflix until Dec. 31, 2020.

“We’re sad that NBC has decided to take The Office back for its own streaming platform,” the Netflix Twitter account wrote. “But members can binge watch the show to their hearts’ content ad-free on Netflix until January 2021.”

It appears there won’t be much of a gap when The Office moves from Netflix to Peacock. Again, the show will not be on the new streaming service upon launch in July 2020. However, every episode of The Office is expected to be released in January 2021, according to Variety.

Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter revealed NBCU received exclusive domestic streaming rights to The Office until 2026. The company will pay $100 million for the next five years. So don’t expect the workplace comedy to return to Netflix anytime soon.

Will there be a reboot or reunion when ‘The Office’ is released on Peacock?

In September 2019, NBCU’s then-Chairman of Direct-to-Consumer and Digital Enterprises, Bonnie Hammer, revealed the company’s hope to reboot The Office for Peacock.

“It is my hope and goal that we do an Office reboot,” Hammer told Deadline at the time, adding the details would be discussed when the show arrives on the streaming platform in January 2021. “We want there to be some connective tissue to what we also have in the library.”

Now, NBCU has big plans for when The Office arrives on Peacock next year. In an interview with Deadline published in July 2020, President of Original Content at NBCU Entertainment Networks and Direct-to-Consumer, Bill McGoldrick, teased the possibility of a reunion.

“Lots of those ideas have been bandied about with people internally and with Greg Daniels and people associated with the show,” McGoldrick said when asked about an Office reunion. “As you can imagine, there are lots of creative ideas, we haven’t landed at any one right now.”

That said, The Office reboot is not in the cards for the show’s Peacock release in January 2021.

“Because it does not launch until January, we have not talked specifically about The Office reboots for Peacock,” McGoldrick said. “We’ve talked about things we can do to support The Office once it gets to our service but a reboot has not come up specifically for Peacock.”

Whatever happens when The Office becomes available on Peacock, it seems there’s a possibility for new content in the future. But until then, fans have less than six months to go through all nine seasons of the NBC comedy on Netflix. So happy watching.
