The Oregon Health Authority on Friday announced four COVID-19 deaths and 970 new coronavirus cases, as well as another surge in hospitalizations and a new record in the number of patients in intensive care.
The agency also said the number of new cases was an undercount due to technical issues that created a backlog of unprocessed reports.
The Oregon Health Authority no longer reports cases, deaths and hospitalizations over the weekend. New numbers won’t be available until Monday.
Vaccines: Oregon reported 6,980 newly administered doses, which includes 3,548 Thursday and the remainder from previous days.

Who died: Oregon’s 2,886th death tied to COVID-19 is a 25-year-old Jackson County man who tested positive July 30 and died Aug. 4 at Providence Medford Medical Center.
The 2,887th fatality is a 48-year-old Jackson County man who tested positive Aug. 1 and died Aug. 4 at Asante Rogue Valley Medical Center. He had no underlying conditions.
Oregon’s 2,888th death is a 67-year-old Multnomah County woman who tested positive Aug. 2 and died Aug. 4 at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center.
The 2,889th fatality is a 67-year-old Lane County man who tested positive July 23 and died Aug. 3 at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend.
Unless noted above, each person had underlying health conditions.
Hospitalizations: 496 people with confirmed cases of COVID-19 are hospitalized, up 39 from Thursday. That includes 135 people in intensive care, one more than Thursday and a new high point since the beginning of the pandemic.
Since it began: Oregon has reported 226,899 confirmed or presumed infections and 2,889 deaths, among the lowest per capita numbers in the nation. To date, the state has reported 4,664,463 doses administered, fully vaccinating 2,325,446 people and partially vaccinating 186,600 people.
