Tom & Jerry trailer: mortal enemies reunited – Polygon

Mortal enemies and cartoon veterans Tom and Jerry are set to make their big-screen debut in 2021.

In Tom & Jerry, the iconic cat and mouse live alongside live-action humans. Think Space Jam or Who Framed Roger Rabbit, but it would appear from the first trailer — which has cartoon pigeons and elephants alongside Tom and Jerry — that in this world, animals are all just animated creatures. The result is wacky cartoon hijinks and physical gags in a real-world setting, blending classic animation with live action.

After Tom and Jerry part ways, Jerry shacks up at a fancy hotel right before a super-important fabulous wedding event. The hotel manager (Michael Peña) freaks out about their newfound mouse problem, and recruits a new employee (Chloë Grace Moretz) to get rid of the mouse. She ends up hiring a cat, who just so happens to be Tom, and the rivals meet face-to-face again, resulting in what seems like a thousand face-smashing, electrocution, and long-fall-to-the-ground visual gags. It’s all a throwback to an age of cartoons mostly built around endless violent confrontations, but this time, with a minimal plot tacked on.

Tom & Jerry is set to premiere in theaters on March 5, 2021.
