Robert Pattinson’s transition from Twilight heartthrob to the next Batman hasn’t been smooth. But fans initially outraged at his casting forgot the actor’s many tranformations over the years. Likewise, co-star Colin Farrell disappears into his role as The Penguin. In fact, Farrell’s make-up is so convincing another actor on the set of The Batman failed to recognize him.
Writer-director Matt Reeves has assembled an epic cast of actors
Although some fans doubted Pattinson’s ability to slip into the lead, The Batman has been consistently winning over skeptics with its supporting cast. In addition to Farrell’s Penguin, writer-director Matt Reeves’ movie feature Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, and Paul Dano as The Riddler.
From the first trailer, it appears Dano will be the main villain in The Batman. However, fans still have much to discover about the movie. In the footage released so far, Jeffrey Wright’s Commissioner Jim Gordon perhaps features most prominently. That makes sense considering DC has already announced an HBO Max prequel series centering on the Gotham police.

Even 1 of Colin Farrell’s co-stars didn’t recognize him as Penguin
Yet, Farrell’s interpretation of the Penguin is certainly one of the elements fans are most curious about. The actor has previously undergone intense make-overs for movies like Horrible Bosses and The Lobster. But the first glimpse at his Penguin had fans convinced actor Richard Kind had joined The Batman. Even Wright confessed he couldn’t recognize Farrell.
“I’ve worked with that makeup artist before and it’s just incredible,” Wright told SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show recently. “Colin walked on to set one day and I walked right passed him [laughs] I was like ‘Okay, hey dude, what’s happening? Where’s Colin? Are we going to shoot?’ It’s pretty remarkable.”
Robert Pattinson’s ‘The Batman’ hits theaters in October 2021
The Batman was originally set for release in June 2021. However, due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, production came to a halt in mid-2020. With new safety precautions in place, filming has now resumed. And the latest adaptation of Batman is finally back on track.
Both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck notably faced intense criticism from fans when they took on the role. And each has since developed their own loyal following. Thankfully, fans eager to compare Pattinson against previous Batman actors will get their chance to do so on Oct. 1, 2021.
