Taylor Swift revealed she sent Dylan O’Brien a ‘novella-length text message’ asking him to be in her heart-wrenching 13-minute short film All Too Well.
While speaking of her choice to cast the 30-year-old Teen Wolf actor in her directorial debut, the Cardigan singer, 32, revealed he was her ‘first choice’ to star in the video, alongside Sadie Sink, to Bustle via email this week.
‘I’d seen his work and heard nothing but wonderful things about him as a person,’ the 11-time Grammy winner said of the performer.

She continued: ‘Ultimately I want to work with people who love what they do and come at it with enthusiasm, because that’s how I approach creating things too.’
In addition to praising O’Brien’s versatility over the years, she ‘had a feeling he would be great at ad libbing and adding nuance to his character.’
‘He absolutely blew me away and I feel really lucky that I gained such a great friend from the experience too,’ the pop star gushed.

The title track is supposedly based on the singer’s short-lived relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal, who she dated from October 2010 to January 2011.
During an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, Swift noted via Decider that she was interested in collaborating with individuals whom she personally admired.

‘I like working with friends or people who I think would be excited about working with me,’ she said.
The You Belong With Me singer then expressed that she was happy to have collaborated with individuals who would help her through the filmmaking process.
‘I’ve never made a short film before. I needed to reach out to people who would maybe believe that I was capable with it. I’m just blown away by what they did — they went out and left it all on the field,’ she said.
Swift also remarked that O’Brien and Sink were ‘the only two people I imagined playing [these roles]’ and that, had the Stranger Things actress not been interested in the part, ‘I don’t think I would’ve made [All Too Well: The Short Film].’
All’s well that ends well to end up with you: She has since found love with Joe Alwyn, who she began dating around October 2016; seen in 2019
Some of the most popular lyrics from the fan-favorite masterpiece include: ‘And you call me up again just to break me like a promise, so casually cruel in the name of being honest.’
