‘Star Wars’ adds new droid stamps with US Postal Service – Deseret News

The United States Postal Service and Lucasfilm will team up to release 10 new “Star Wars” character stamps to promote education.

  • The new stamps — which will launch in the spring — are a part of Lucasfilm’s new commitment to science, technology, engineering and math projects.

What stamps are there?

Droids are the centerpiece for the new stamps. The available stamp options include:

  • IG-11.
  • R2-D2.
  • K-2SO.
  • D-O.
  • L3-37.
  • BB-8.
  • C-3PO.
  • A GNK (or Gonk) power droid.
  • 2-1B surgical droid.
  • C1-10P, commonly known as “Chopper.”

Why are they being released?

The “Star Wars” stamps are being released in collaboration with “Star Wars: Force for Change” — which promotes education among the “Star Wars” community — and the global nonprofit organization “FIRST” (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology).

  • Per StarWars.com: “Star Wars: Force for Change and FIRST have joined forces to expand access to STEM learning to more young people around the world, and to help them envision a brighter, more inclusive future.”
