The first photos of Nicole Kidman in costume as Lucille Ball have been revealed — and some fans aren’t happy.

Photographers snapped photos of the 53-year-old on the Los Angeles set of her new film “Being the Ricardos” alongside co-star Javier Bardem, who portrays Desi Arnaz. Kidman wore a curly red wig to portray the “I Love Lucy” star in a new Aaron Sorkin film which follows a “crisis” in Ball and Arnaz’s marriage.

The new photos from the film’s set have sparked controversy online, with some, fans concerned as to whether Kidman and Bardem are the right choices for the role of the iconic pair.

“They are so wrong for the parts! I don’t get this casting choice,” one person commented on the photos, while another added, “I love her but she looks nothing like Lucy.”

Another fan suggested that “Will & Grace” star Debra Messing would have been a much better fit for the part.

“They could have saved so much time and money in face prosthetics by hiring Debra Messing,” they wrote. “She was robbed of the part she was born to play. This will piss me off forever.”

“Debra Messing should be Lucille Ball,” another echoed. “Brutal casting. Nicole has zero sense of humour.”

“She’s a good actress but this is not the role for her,” one person another simply stated.

Despite the skepticism, there have been plenty of fans who believe Kidman looks great in costume and that the film is sure to be a success.

“I’m really excited about this!” someone wrote. “They look good.”

“I mean, Nicole Kidman doesn’t have to look like Lucille Ball for her to do a good job in this role,” another noted. “And there’s really no reason to pretend they look alike.”

“Her voice is almost identical if you take away her Australian accent,” another mentioned.

In February, Sorkin defended the film’s casting choice in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, assuring fans that Kidman and Bardem are the right actors for the job.

“I think that the people thought that we’ve cast them as Lucy and Ricky Ricardo,” Sorkin said. “The film takes place during a production week of ‘I Love Lucy’ — a Monday table read to Friday audience taping, with a whole bunch of long flashbacks which are telling the story that got us here — and because there’s a table read, there are rehearsals and then there’s tape night, we do see moments of them being Lucy and Ricky Ricardo. We see moments from an episode of ‘I Love Lucy’. But mostly they are playing Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball. And they’re going to be fantastic…These are two of the greatest actors ever.
