Shannen Doherty is being praised for speaking out on aging and how Hollywood doesn’t reflect “women who embraced their face.”
On Saturday night, the 50-year-old actress posted a bare-faced selfie alongside a caption sharing her frustration at not seeing “women without fillers, without Botox, without a facelift” on her screen.”
“Watching movies tonight and noticed there were few female characters I could relate to,” the former Beverly Hills, 90210 star wrote. “You know, women without fillers, without Botox, without a facelift. Women who embraced their face and all the experience it showed.
“I have lived,” she continued. “I love that I’ve lived and that my face reflects my life. I survived a lot — yes, cancer, but more than that. I embrace me now. Finally. Done with the perception magazines and Hollywood try to make us into. I want to see women like me. Women like us.”
Doherty — who announced in early 2020 that her cancer, first diagnosed in 2015, had returned following a remission — struck a chord with followers who thanked her for speaking up.
“Thank you. We need more of you,” commented Paulina Porizkova, who has also been vocal about feeling “invisible” as she ages.
“You are beautiful and I love this,” added director Reed Morano.
“Aging is a privilege afforded to few,” another follower responded. “You wear your journey beautifully.”
