Here is this week’s COVID-19 update from the County Health and Human Services Agency with data through Sept. 21.
Vaccination Progress:
Deaths:
- 44 new deaths were reported since the last report on Sept. 15. The region’s total is 4,027.
- 22 women and 22 men died between July 24 and Sept. 20, 2021.
- 13 were 80 years of age or older, four were in their 70s, 14 were in their 60s, seven were in their 50s, two were in their 40s, two were in their 30s and two were in their 20s.
- 40 had underlying medical conditions, three had medical history pending and one did not have medical conditions.
Cases, Case Rates and Testing:
- 851 COVID-19 cases were reported to the County on Sept. 21. The region’s total is now 351,134. About half of the cases reported today are from a reporting backlog over the past week due to laboratory connection issues that have since been resolved.
- San Diego County’s case rate per 100,000 residents is 27.6 overall, 13.0 for fully vaccinated people and 47.3 for not fully vaccinated San Diegans.
- 23,238 tests were reported to the County on Sept. 21, and the percentage of new positive cases was 3.7%.
- The 14-day rolling percentage of positive cases among tests is 4.0%.
Community Setting Outbreaks:
- 37 new community outbreaks were confirmed in the past seven days (Sept. 15 through Sept. 21): 18 in TK-12 grade school settings, four in business settings, four in restaurant/bar settings, three in daycare/preschool/childcare settings, two in government settings, one in a college/university setting, one in a construction setting, one in a grocery setting, one in a healthcare setting, one in restaurant setting and one in a retail setting.
- The community outbreaks trigger is more than seven in a 7-day period.
