The acting world is in mourning on Wednesday, with the news that Tony-winning actress Rae Allen has passed away.
The actress, who won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for And Miss Reardon Drinks A Little in 1971, passed away peacefully in her sleep at 95 years of age, via Deadline.
She also earned Tony nominations for Damn Yankees in 1955 and Traveler Without Luggage in 1967, and was featured in several movies and TV shows such as A League of Their Own and The Sopranos.

Rae Allen was born June 23, 1926 in Brooklyn, New York, and trained as a performer at HB Studio in Greenwich Village.
She graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1947 and soon transitioned to the Broadway stage.
She earned her first Tony nomination in 1955 for playing intrepid reporter Gloria in Damn Yankees, which ran for over 1,000 performances on Broadway.

The actress made her feature film debut by reprising her role as Gloria in the 1958 film adaptation of Damn Yankees.

She guest starred in The Untouchables, Car 54, Where Are You, Profiles in Courage, The Patti Duke Show in the 1960s, plus a role in 1967’s The Tiger Makes Out with Eli Wallach.
She moved between the big and small screen throughout the 1970s with roles in Where’s Poppa?, Taking Off, All in the Family and a slew of TV movies.
Allen was also featured in a number of hit 1980s TV shows such as Soap, The Greatest American Hero, Lou Grant, Remington Steele, Hill Street Blues, Scarecrow and Mrs. King and the 1988 movie Moving.

She had a pair of memorable roles in 1992 with Ma Keller in A League of Their Own and Mrs. Sokol – an unemployment counselor George (Jason Alexander) must deal with in an episode of Seinfeld.
The actress also had roles in the 1994 film Stargate, the 2000 series The Fearing Mind and a five-episode run as Aunt Quintina Blundetto on The Sopranos.
Her final roles were a guest-starring spot on Grey’s Anatomy in 2006, the 2007 film Reign Over Me and two 2011 episodes of Vampire Mob.
She is survived by nieces Laura and Betty Cosgrove; and her adopted family, friends April Webster and Lisa Ann Gold, with memorial services being planned on both coasts.
