Sir Paul McCartney is waging war – on the humble passport photo. 

Talking to Beatles fans on Friday night about this never-before-seen snap, Macca, 79, revealed: ‘In those days you were allowed to look groovy in passport photos. 

‘But now you’ve got to look into the camera and not smile – because it’s a totalitarian state!’ 

Macca showed the photo, taken in the late 1950s, on a big screen during a talk at London‘s Royal Festival Hall about his new book, The Lyrics.
