Paramount+ is hopelessly devoted to a new Grease prequel.
The streaming network announced plans for its new 10-episode original musical series, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, on Monday.
Set in the four years prior to the plot of the hit 1978 movie musical, the prequel will follow the origin story of film’s most iconic 50s girl gang.

Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies is set in 1954 – prior to the events in the classic movie – and will follow four ‘fed up’ misfit teenagers on their own path at Rydell High.
The musical series stars Marisa Davila, Cheyenne Isabel Wells, Ari Notartomaso, Tricia Fukuhara, Shanel Bailey, Madison Thompson, Johnathan Nieves, Jason Schmidt, Maxwell Whittington-Cooper and Jackie Hoffman.
‘We are thrilled to unveil our new original series that will introduce an incredible cast of young stars in the making and electrifying musical numbers you will fall in love with,’ said Nicole Clemens, President, Paramount Television Studios & Paramount+ Original Scripted Series said in a press release.

‘Annabel and Alethea have managed to brilliantly capture the spirit of the iconic beloved classic film which like RISE OF THE PINK LADIES, is both set in the past but relevant to the present.’
According to the network, the show has already begin filming in Vancouver.
It doesn’t appear that any of the original stars from the hit 1978 movie musical are involved, nor will their respective characters be included in the project.
Grease starred John Travolta and Olivia Newton John as bad-boy Danny Zuko and goodie-two-shoes Australian transplant Sandy Olsson.

The pair fell head-over-heels for each other during some ‘summer nights’ but things got complicated when Sandy arrives at Rydell High at the start of the year and threatens Danny’s ‘cool factor’.
Rizzo, played by Stockard Channing, was the leader of the girl clique, the Pink Ladies – the coolest girl gang in school, immediately recognizable by their matching pink jackets.
The Pink Ladies consisted of Didi Conn as Frenchy, Jamie Donnelly as Jan and Dinah Manoff as Marty Maraschino.

Danny, meanwhile, was the head of the leather jacket clad, drag racing T-Birds – alongside Jeff Conaway as Kenickie, Barry Pearl as Doody, Michael Tucci as Sonny LaTierri and Kelly Ward as Putzie.
The film, which is based off of the stage production of the same name, was a box-office smash, was nominated for several Golden Globe awards and featured a hit soundtrack.
Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies will stream on Paramount+, the streaming network from ViacomCBS, later in 2022.
