The Utah Department of Health has reported more than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases for the second day in a row.
There have now been 62,852 cases statewide since March, an increase of 1,077 new cases since Friday.
751,950 people have now been tested, an increase of 8,213.
The rolling seven-day average of positive tests is now 796 per day, or approximately 12.7% of those tested.
Approximately 50,957 of those positive cases are considered to be “recovered,” having contracted the virus three weeks ago and not passing away as a result of it.
3,477 people have been hospitalized with COVID-19 since March; 137 people are currently hospitalized.
Three new deaths have been reported, bringing the statewide fatality rate to 440. The new deaths include:
- Female, between 45-64, Salt Lake County resident, hospitalized at time of death
- Female, between 65-84, Utah County resident, not hospitalized at time of death
- Male, between 45-64, Washington County resident, hospitalized at time of death
In light of the surge of cases, Governor Gary Herbert told FOX 13 he would be meeting with his advisers over the weekend to discuss possible restrictions that may be imposed to slow the spread of COVID-19.
