A Central Florida hospital expects to get its first shipment of the coronavirus vaccine on Wednesday. “First, I want to ask for your patience and understanding as we are going to engage in a logistic nightmare to try to deliver those vaccines,” Raul Pino said.A logistical nightmare is what Pino with the Department of Health in Orange County is saying about the COVID-19 vaccine rollout. “Our county has over 9,000 individuals and employees in long-term care facilities and the Governor’s order was to vaccinate all those individuals in four weeks so that, that’s a challenge,” Pino said.The vaccine has been prioritized for health care workers and long-term care facilities.”We have to do a little bit over 500 vaccinations a day, seven days a week, to meet that goal of four weeks,” Pino said.A Tampa nurse got the first dose Monday.AdventHealth in Orlando is set to get its first shipment on Tuesday and they will start vaccinating on Wednesday.The initial Florida roll out will also be handled by CVS and Walgreens.Walgreens said in a statement: “Right now we’re really focused on vaccine administration where it’s immediately needed and that’s long-term care facilities and health care workers.”Adding: “Once we get past that and we have broad vaccine availability in 2021, we’ll be working with states to get that in all of our stores.”“Even when you are vaccinated, you should continue to wear your mask, you should continue to wash your hands and keep your distance,” Pino said.
