The Oklahoma State Department of Health reported 787 new COVID-19 cases across the state since Friday, bringing the total cumulative number of the state’s positive cases to 445,650.According to the health department, 268 is Monday’s 7-day rolling average for the number of new cases reported.Monday’s total provisional death count, according to the CDC/NCHS, stands at 8,145; that’s 21 more compared to Friday’s update. The health department announced that they are changing the way they report COVID-19 deaths in an effort to show a “more timely” picture of the disease’s impact in Oklahoma. Moving forward, OSDH officials said they will include the provisional death count provided by CDC/NCHS in the daily updates.According to the CDC, provisional death counts deliver the most complete and accurate picture of lives lost to COVID-19. They are based on death certificates, which are the most reliable source of data and contain information not available anywhere else, including comorbid conditions, race and ethnicity and place of death. Health officials reported that as of Friday, April 16, there were 3,507,917 total negative specimens and that 208 people are currently hospitalized.
