Maya Hawke has told how her famous parents – Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman – didn’t want her to have ‘bit parts’ in their films when she shared her desire to act.
The Little Women actress, 23, admitted they were ‘cautious’ of her acting dreams and wanted to make sure she had the ‘backbone’ to pursue the career herself.
Maya told the Guardian: ‘They wanted to ensure I had a strong enough backbone, my own passion for it and work ethic. They didn’t want to cart me along every red carpet or have me do bit-parts in their movies.’

The screen star, who also played a role in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, said that Ethan and Uma had reservations about her choices.
She said: ‘They were wary of the public life side of acting and the difficulties of that. They also tried to protect me from falling into acting.
However once they became certain of her strong appetite for acting they gave her their approval and full support.

Maya said: ‘Once I was old enough, and it was clear they were my choices, they were very supportive.’
Maya’s big acting break came when she starred as Jo March in the miniseries Little Women, which aired in 2017.
Two years later she had a part in Once Upon A Time and has since been at the centre of rumours she will reprise her mother’s role in Tarantino’s Kill Bill Vol 3.

Quentin revealed in July that he would like to cast Maya in a potential third Kill Bill film.
The filmmaker, 58, appeared on Tuesday’s episode of The Joe Rogan Experience and spoke about his ideas regarding a third feature in the heavily stylized action throwback series.
He is currently planning to end his career after completing production on his upcoming tenth film and is currently mulling over potential projects to take on.
Big plans: Quentin revealed in July that he would like to cast Maya in a potential third Kill Bill film
Tarantino initially told the podcast powerhouse about his ideas regarding the potential setup of the project, which would take place after 2004’s Kill Bill Volume 2.
‘I think it’s just revisiting the characters twenty years later and just imagining the Bride and her daughter, B.B, having 20 years of peace, and then that peace is shattered,’ he remarked.
The filmmaker went on to note that the idea of having Maya, working with her mother was particularly exciting to him.
He continued, ‘And now The Bride and B.B are on the run and just the idea of being able to cast Uma [Thurman] and cast her daughter Maya [Hawke] in the thing would be f***ing exciting.’

The Academy Award-winning director then gave Rogan a few more plot details concerning the direction of the feature and teased the return of several old characters.
‘Elle Driver is still out there, Sophie Fatale got her arm cut off, but she’s still out there. They all got Bill’s money. Actually, Gogo had a twin sister Shiaki and so her twin sister could show up,’ he said.
Tarantino has publicly teased Kill Bill Volume 3 in the years ever since the second feature’s release, although he has opted to work on other projects.
Plot details about the feature remain speculative, although he has discussed bringing back the daughter of Vernita Green, played by Vivica A. Fox, who was killed during the first feature.
The actress spoke about her pick for the role during a sit-down with Express and expressed that her ideal choice was qualified to take on the part for a very specific reason.
She said: ‘I think they should go after the young girl who did it, Ambrosia Kelley…If not, if I could have my dream daughter? Zendaya. She’s tall, she’s got those long legs; she would kick a**!’
The development of the potential feature was hampered for nearly two decades by a controversy concerning the involvement of Kill Bill’s lead in a car accident during the production of the second movie.
The performer was set to drive a vehicle for a specific scene and felt uncomfortable doing so before the director assured her that the safety protocols on set would keep her safe during the shoot.

Protracted development: Work on a potential third Kill Bill feature has been hampered over the past few years due to a controversy regarding a destructive car crash involving Thurman that occurred during production
However, Thurman was seriously injured when her car hit a tree and ultimately received multiple injuries, including a concussion and knee damage.
The entire incident was caught on camera, and when the actress asked for the footage, she claims she was informed by Miramax that it would only be given to her if she gave up her rights to pursue claims related to the crash, which she refused.
The Pulp Fiction actress and Tarantino remained on unfriendly terms for years afterward and only reconciled after the company released the footage following multiple accusations of sexual abuse being brought against Harvey Weinstein.
During a 2018 interview with Deadline, the filmmaker spoke about the events surrounding the crash and expressed that the incident still brought him shame nearly twenty years after it occurred.
‘I told her it would be safe. And it wasn’t. I was wrong. I didn’t force her into the car. She got into it because she trusted me. And she believed me…it is one of the biggest regrets of my life,’ he noted.
The Reservoir Dogs director also elaborated on his feelings and remarked that the crash and its follow-ups had added a downside to two of his most successful projects.
‘We held hands on this movie all the way through the entire march of it. We made it side by side and one of the things that me and Uma are lamenting is, this tarnishes Kill Bill’s legacy,’ Tarantino said.
