Matthew McConaughey has addressed the rumor that he is planning to run for Governor of Texas in the near future.
The Dazed And Confused actor made an appearance on Friday’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where he engaged in a lengthy conversation with the late-night talk show host.
During their exchange, the television personality asked the 51-year-old performer if he was considering running for political office in the coming years.

McConaughey noted that he was open to the idea, although he did not have any concrete plans regarding a potential move from acting to public service.
Specifically, the actor said that the notion of taking on the position of Governor was ‘something I’m giving consideration. Absolutely. What an honorable thing to even be able to consider.’
He also did not want to give Fallon too much information about his future plans, remarking that he was ‘no further than that right now, sir.’
The Interstellar actor then joked that his slightly understated answer made him ‘sound like a politician.’

The topic of conversation then turned to McConaughey’s experience during the recent winter storm that hit Texas, which dramatically impacted the lives of millions of state residents.
The actor noted that they had to perform multiple repairs on their house during the weather event.
Specifically, the Dallas Buyers Club star said that his house ‘had a couple of pipes break’ and that they ‘had to pull out some drywall in the house.’
McConaughey also remarked that his family ‘just got off having to boil water four days’ before his interview with Fallon.
He then acknowledged that he and his loved ones had a more privileged living situation and expressed concerns about the ‘tens of thousands that aren’t in as good a shape as we are.’

To that end, McConaughey announced that he and his wife Camila would be hosting a virtual benefit concert entitled We’re Texas, which will be streamed on Sunday.
The True Detective actor made a point of selecting native Texans to perform at the upcoming event; performers such as Kelly Clarkson, Post Malone and Willie Nelson are featured in the lineup.
Numerous other entertainment industry figures, including Selena Gomez, Jennifer Garner and Joe Rogan, are also set to make special appearances during the webcast.
The excitement in McConaughey’s voice was audible as he told Fallon that ‘all the money that’s going to be able to be donated is going to great nonprofits on the ground.’
The actor concluded that, although planning the upcoming event had left him exhausted, ‘there’s a lot of people that aren’t getting any sleep either, so I can’t gripe about it.’
