Kim Kardashian reflected on some of the most iconic fashion looks from her decades long career in front of the camera as part of a new cover story for Vogue.
The 41-year-old mogul revealed to the magazine that her shocking head-to-toe Balenciaga ensemble worn to the most recent Met Gala almost didn’t happen since she ‘fought against’ wearing the full face obscuring mask.
Kardashian also dished that despite wide criticism, the Olsen twins her other legendary Met look, the floral gown sported for her first appearance at the annual costume gala.
Life in style: Kim Kardashian revealed that she ‘fought against’ wearing the face-covering black mask to the Met Gala and that the Olsen twins loved her mocked floral ‘couch’ gown in a new Vogue interview
‘I fought against it, Kim told the outlet of her Balenciaga mask. ‘I was like, I don’t know how I could wear the mask. Why would I want to cover my face?’
‘But Demna [Gvasalia, Creative Director at Balenciaga] and the team were like, ‘This is a costume gala. This is not a party where everyone looks beautiful. There’s a theme and you have to wear the mask. That is the look.’ ‘
Ultimately, Kim relented and stepped out on the carpet without an inch of skin visible alongside her younger sister Kendall Jenner.
The Keeping Up with the Kardashians alum also reflected on her sartorial choices over the years as part of Vogue’s Life in Looks series where she is presented with a book filled with photos.

‘Today, I’m going to be going through some of my most iconic looks, some of my most tragic looks,’ she quipped at the start of the video.
The first image up was from 2006 during a trip to Sydney, Australia with pal Paris Hilton. In the famous shot, the beauties are wearing silver and gold swim wear and cover ups with over sized metallic Louis Vuitton bags.
Kim revealed that the gold and silver purses belonged to her and she still has them to this day. She also shared a ‘fun fact’ that the gold handbag carried by Hilton was empty because Paris ‘does not take care of her purses’.
Some of her more ‘tragic’ ensembles came from the start of her Keeping Up With the Kardashian days when she admitted she would attend any event she could just to get photographed.
Trolled: Kim’s 2013 Met Gala gown was mocked across social media and the Skims owner admitted that she cried the whole ride home over the criticism
‘I remember the Olsen twins came up to me and loved my outfit and my gloves, so none of the critics mattered,’ she dished (seen in 2019)
Over done hair and make-up, chandelier earrings and chunky belts were de rigueur at the time, however, the star admitted they didn’t age well.
It was hard to overlook the influence her estranged husband Kanye West has on bringing Kim into the upper echelon of high fashion.
She heaped praise on her soon-to-be ex, with whom she is currently warring with over their impending divorce.
One of her most ridiculed outfits came when she was West’s guest to the Mel Gala in 2013 dressed in a Givenchy floral-print dress by Riccardo Tisci.

Taking over: Once Kim started letting Kanye West dress her she admits she was taken more seriously in the world of high-end fashion
Pregnant with her first daughter North at the time, Tisci chose a stretch fabric to account for her baby bump and Anna Wintour insisted she wear the printed version of the gown rather than a black one that was waiting in the wings.
Kim’s gown became an instant meme, mocked for looking like some grandmother’s couch. She recalled that Robin Williams even tweeted that she resembled Mrs. Doubtfire.
The Skims owner admitted that she cried the whole ride home over the trolling but, in hindsight, really loves the style.
Plus, she said, ‘I remember the Olsen twins came up to me and loved my outfit and my gloves, so none of the critics mattered.’
Much of Kim’s style transformed significantly after Kanye offered to be her ‘ghost stylist’ and then began dressing her in outfits of his own design.
‘I always trust his vision. I think he sees years ahead,’ she said of her estranged husband. ‘My best looks are the ones that he puts together.’
