HESITANCY MAY NOT BE ENTIRELY TO BLAME. (áááPKGááá) IF YOU LOOK AT THE STATE’S VACCINE WEBSITE RIGHT NOW, YOU’LL SEE THAT WOMEN HAVE GOTTEN NEARLY 62 PERCENT OF VACCINE DOSES, WHILE ONLY 38 PERCENT HAVE GONE TO MEN. SO WE WANTED TO KNOW — COULD MEN BE MORE HESITANT TO GET THE SHOT? TURNS OUT IT MIGHT BE A LITTLE MORE COMPLICATED THAN THAT. DR. AUSTIN BAETH – A DES MOINES PHYSICIAN – SAYS A LOT OF IT COULD ACTUALLY HAVE TO DO WITH áWHO GOT THE VACCINE áFIRST. <THE DEMOGRAPHICS OF THE GROUPS WHO ARE PRIORITIZED TO FIRST RECEIVE THIS VACCINE SKEW LARGELY FEMALE. SO HEALTH CARE WORKERS IN AMERICA ARE 76% WOMEN, AND NURSING HOME RESIDENTS ARE 70% WOMEN. 32> BAETH SAYS THE DIFFERENCES COULD LEVEL OFF MORE AS ELIGIBILITY EXPANDS. BUT THERE COULD BE ANOTHER FACTOR IN PLAY. <1:13 SOME OF OUR OTHER DATA CONCERNING COVID-19 SUGGESTS THAT WOMEN ON AVERAGE DOES TEND TO TAKE THIS DISEASE MORE SERIOUSLY.> FOR INSTANCE A SEPTEMBER IOWA POLL, FROM POLLSTER ANN SELZER AND THE DES MOINES REGISTER, FOUND WOMEN WERE WAY MORE LIKELY TO MASK UP. 68 PERCENT OF WOMEN SAID THEY WORE ONE ALMOST ALL OF THE TIME – – COMPARED TO JUST 43 PERCENT OF MEN. <1:38 WE MIGHT BE ABLE TO EXTRAPOLATE THAT TO WOMEN, PERHAPS TAKING MORE PRECAUTIONS AGAINST THIS DISEASE BY GETTING VACCINATED. 1:46> BAETH POINTED OUT THE IOWA NUMBERS SO FAR RUN COUNTER TO A JANUARY KAISER FAMILY FOUNDATION POLL, SHOWING WOMEN ACTUALLY HAD áMORE CONCERNS ABOUT THE VACCINE THAN MEN. WHILE THE GENDER BREAKDOWN REMAINS TO BE SEEN ONCE THE SHOTS OPEN TO ALL… BAETH SAYS áEVERYONE SHOULD BE ASSURED THE VACCINE’S SAFE AND EFFECTIVE.. …AND EVERYONE WHO áCAN GET VACCINATED — áSHOULD. <4:38 THIS IS OUR SHOT AT REGAINING SOME SENSE OF NORMALCY
