Late-night television hosts Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel surprised fans Friday night when the pair switched talk shows for April Fools’ Day, with Fallon manning the desk over at “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” while Kimmel hosted “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
The after-hours staples flew across the country to pull off the epic prank, as Fallon usually films in New York City while Kimmel is based in Hollywood.
While discussing the prank over video chat, Kimmel and Fallon revealed that they originally wanted to pull off the epic switch for April Fools’ Day 2020, but couldn’t due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“This is wIld, but it’s been an amazing experience. I love that we did this. I can’t believe we pulled it off,” Fallon told Kimmel before the pair continued to host the other’s show.
Fallon brought along good friend Justin Timberlake, who appeared as his guest and spray painted “I ❤️ Matt Damon” on Kimmel’s desk.
The pair also participated in one of Kimmel’s most popular segments, “Celebrity Mean Tweets,” instead highlighting “Sweet Tweets” they’ve received on Twitter.
Over in New York, Kimmel sat down with Hugh Jackman to play “Tonight Show” game, “Box of Lies.” He also welcomed comedian Bridget Everett.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers – who released their 12th studio album “Unlimited Love” this week – served as the night’s musical guest for both shows.
The two Jimmys previously collaborated on a satirical PSA clarifying the common misconception that they are the same person in promotion of Kimmel’s show moving to Brooklyn for one week in 2019.
