Jefferson County health officer ‘begging’ for people to skip Christmas parties this year
Health and medical officials in Alabama are pleading with people to skip Christmas parties and large gatherings this year as the state faces a continued surge in COVID-19 cases that appears poised to get worse. Jefferson County Health Officer Dr. Mark Wilson said holiday parties are not a good idea right now. “If even a few large events occur without the strictest precautions, we will have more sick people than we have hospital beds or nurses or doctors to care for,” Wilson said. “Please have a Christmas celebration with family just inside your household,” he added. “Make this sacrifice so that our healthcare workers can safely do their jobs and take care of everyone who needs medical support.”Wilson said the vaccine offers hope but it could be months before it’s available to the average person.
