Iowa reports 69 additional COVID-19 deaths, more than 280,000 total cases

More than 280,000 Iowans have now tested positive for COVID-19.The Iowa Department of Public Health reported 1,703 new positive COVID-19 cases and 69 additional deaths Thursday. As of 10 a.m., the health department reported 280,303 total cases, 238,977 total recoveries and 3,891 total deaths since the start of the pandemic. The health department reported 278,600 total cases and 3,822 total deaths 24 hours earlier. Of the state’s 3,891 deaths, 3,571 list COVID-19 as the underlying cause, while 320 list it as a contributing factor.Iowa data shows 1,355,006 Iowans have been tested for COVID-19. The state’s 7-day and 14-day positivity rates increased slightly in the last 24 hours. Iowa reports a 14-day positivity rate of 12.2% and a 7-day positivity rate of 10.7% There are now 33 counties with a 14-day positivity rate at 15% or greater. That’s up by one county over the previous day.The number of Iowans hospitalized with COVID-19 declined for a second day. There are now 600 Iowans hospitalized with the virus, down from 612 a day earlier. The number of patients hospitalized in the last 24 hours dropped from 105 to 76. There are 134 patients listed in intensive care and 69 patients on ventilators. The health department reports approximately 2,920 hospital beds, 377 ICU beds and 882 ventilators available in Iowa.
