Iowa reports 16 additional coronavirus deaths, 1,330 new cases

The Iowa Department of Public Health on Friday reported 1,330 new positive coronavirus cases and 16 additional deaths. As of 10 a.m. Friday, the state reported 104,552 total positive cases, 80,486 total recoveries and 1,521 total deaths since the pandemic began. The state reported 103,222 positive cases and 1,505 deaths 24 hours earlier.State data shows 886,557 Iowans have been tested for COVID-19. The health department received 6,577 lab test results in the previous day, with 839 positive cases. The state also receives test results from prior days that add to the overall total. Iowa reports a 14-day positivity rate of 9.2%.IDPH data shows 14 counties reporting a positivity rate greater than 15% over the last 14 days, down from 19 the previous day. Public schools in Harrison, Sioux, Carroll, Osceola, Monroe, Delaware, Plymouth, Emmet, Lyon, Taylor, Fremont, Decatur, Crawford and Woodbury counties can apply for a waiver to offer 100% virtual instruction. Harrison, Sioux and Carroll counties report a rate greater than 20% over the last 14 days.COVID-19 hospitalizations in Iowa have dropped after setting records several times this week. There are currently 468 Iowans hospitalized with the virus, down from 482 the previous day. There are 105 patients listed in intensive care, down from 107 the previous day. There were 66 patients admitted in the last 24 hours, unchanged from the previous day. There are currently 48 patients on ventilators in Iowa, down from 49 the previous day.There are also fewer Iowa long-term care facilities reporting coronavirus outbreaks. There are currently 58 listed by the state, down from 61 facilities the previous day. IDPH data shows 1,449 positive cases and 595 recoveries within those facilities.
