Iowa has reached 4,500 COVID-19 deaths.The Iowa Department of Public Health reported 1,105 new positive COVID-19 cases and eight additional deaths in the state Wednesday.As of 10 a.m., the health department reported 315,170 total positive virus cases, 277,832 total recoveries and 4,500 total deaths since the start of the pandemic. Twenty-four hours earlier, the health department reported 314,065 total cases and 4,492 total deaths.Iowa’s positivity rates continue to decline. The 14-day positivity rate moved down from 10.3% to 10.2%. The 7-day average also declined, dropping from 8% to 7.8%. IDPH data shows 1,455,734 Iowans have been tested for the virus, while 3,544,420 tests have been administered.The number of Iowa’s 99 counties reporting a positivity rate greater than 15% now stands at eight. Kossuth County leads the state with a 20% rate. Wayne County has the lowest rate in Iowa, at 4%.The number of Iowans hospitalized with COVID-19 dropped overnight after increasing the previous day. There are now 408 patients hospitalized, down from 415 the previous day. The number of patients admitted in the last 24 hours increased from 49 to 76. There are 81 patients in ICU and 37 patients on ventilators.There are now 62 long-term care facilities reporting COVID-19 outbreaks in Iowa. That’s up from 60 the previous day. The health department reports 1,961 positive cases and 1,137 recoveries among residents and staff within those facilities. The state reports 1,871 total deaths in Iowa’s care facilities.
