IDPH recommend schools allow parents, kids decide whether to wear masks – KCCI Des Moines

The new recommendations from the Iowa Department of Public Health on Friday said schools should let parents and students make their own decision about wearing face masks. The IDPH director made the recommendation in a letter to schools, child care providers and local health departments. The director said the department adjusted its guidance to recommend that schools and childcare settings approach COVID-19 like other child illnesses, and the department is revising guidance to recommend that kids exposed to COVID-19 no longer must stay home whether they wear a mask or not. Des Moines Public School District told KCCI that it’s going to keep requiring masks because few students have been vaccinated and there are only three weeks left of the school year. The district said it will be revisiting some mitigation efforts for summer programs with the hope to begin a normal school year in August.
