Even Gwyneth Paltrow had a hard time staying healthy in lockdown, as the Goop founder admitted that she was drinking every night during quarantine.
“I drank alcohol during quarantine,” Paltrow told The Mirror. “I was drinking seven nights a week and making pasta and eating bread. I went totally off the rails. I mean, who drinks multiple drinks seven nights a week? Like, that’s not healthy.”
Whiskey was revealed to be the wellness entrepreneur’s drink of choice, though even when she was indulging, Paltrow managed to stay extremely on-brand by drinking quinoa whiskey.
“I love whiskey and I make this fantastic drink called the Buster Paltrow, which I named after my grandfather who loved whiskey sours,” Paltrow explained. “And it’s this great quinoa whiskey from this distillery in Tennessee with maple syrup and lemon juice. It’s just heaven. I would have two of those every night of quarantine.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, binge drinking is defined as, for women, consuming four or more alcoholic beverages on a single occasion (five for men), while heavy drinking is considered to be having eight or more drinks a week for women, or 15 or more for men.
While Paltrow was imbibing nightly, she clarified that she was “not, like, black-out” drunk. Drinking did cause her to start craving cigarettes again, however.
“I miss it,” Paltrow said of smoking.
Paltrow’s not the only one who experienced an uptick in alcohol consumption amid the pandemic. A survey study published in September found that alcohol consumption increased by 14 percent in 2020 in comparison to 2019, with women reporting a 41 percent increase in the number of days they drank heavily.
