A former Spartanburg American Idol contestant was charged with a DUI in fatal crash after he hit a man inside a residential building, according to Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway from the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Tuesday, a 2011 Ford pick-up was traveling north on W Murph Road in Spartanburg when they drove onto a private driveway and struck the building, Ridgeway said.There was a person inside the building that died following the crash, Ridgeway said.Larry Duane Parris, 54, was pronounced dead at 3:45 p.m. at the hospital, according to Rusty Clevenger from the Spartanburg County Coroners Office.The driver of the Ford pick-up was injured and transported to the hospital, Ridgeway said.Caleb Andrew Kennedy, 17, from Roebuck, is being charged with felony DUI resulting in death, Ridgeway said.Kennedy was a finalist on American Idol in 2021 before removing himself after a video showed him “sitting next to someone wearing a Klan-like hood.”Stay tuned to WYFF4 for updates.
