July was a pretty iconic month for Disney’s streaming platform. A stage production of Hamilton premiered ahead of Independence Day and Beyoncé debuted her visual album featuring music from The Lion King: The Gift, Black is King. Much to the delight of Muppets fans, there was also the very first episode of Muppets Now.
Hi ho, fans of Kermit the Frog!
There’s plenty of new and original content on Disney’s streaming platform, Disney+. For the first time ever, though, a new show joined plenty of Muppets content already available on this subscription service. That includes recent releases like the film featuring returning fan-favorite cast members, Muppets Most Wanted.
The very first episode of Muppets Now debuted on July 31. It featured an “interview” with RuPaul’s Drag Race host RuPaul, lifestyle advice with Miss Piggy and Deadly, and even a cooking show with the Swedish chef.
‘Muppets Now’ is the Muppets’ first original series on the streaming platform
Not only is Muppets Now the only Disney+ original Muppets television show, this is an unscripted series, meaning each character has a chance to showcase their special talents in a way that made viewers laugh.
Some subscribers shared their thoughts on this new setting for characters like Kermit the Frog, Gonzo, and Fozzie. So far, the response has been overwhelmingly positive, with the hashtag earning hundreds of posts on Twitter.
“I really enjoyed Muppets Now. The improvised format lets the performers shine, particularly Barretta and Goelz. Uncle Deadly is still killing it. Still getting used to Vogel’s Kermit voice, but loving the physicality he brings. 23 minutes? Is that normal or just the premiere,” one Twitter user said.
Muppet fans responded to the premiere of Disney’s original series
Although it was only the first episode of this series, some fans took to social media, sharing their excitement with this new Muppets content. (Any movie or television show with Miss Piggy is sure to be entertaining.)
“I could have watched #MuppetsNow for another three hours, just saying. And Miss Piggy being in almost every shot is exactly what the world needs, and what she deserves,” one Twitter user wrote.
“Just watched the first episode of #MuppetsNow and I will say it is AMAZING ! It’s like taking the original Muppet Show and putting a modern spin while still being fun for everyone. It is also unique how they are uploading a new episode very week to keep fans interested,” another Twitter user said.
The first episode of Muppets Now is available on Disney+, as are Muppets movies like Muppets Most Wanted, The Muppet Movie, and The Muppet Christmas Carol. New episodes of this original series will premiere on a weekly basis. To learn more about Disney’s streaming platform and to subscribe, visit their website.
