After months of speculation surrounding her marriage, Priyanka Chopra has spoken out and explained why she dropped her husband’s name from her social media accounts.
In November, the internet was alight with divorce rumors surrounding Chopra and Nick Jonas after she changed her Instagram account handle from @PriyankaChopraJonas to @PriyankaChopra. Chopra posted pictures to refute the claims around the same time, but now she’s finally set the record straight in an interview with Vanity Fair. The couple also revealed how they’re planning for the future.
Here’s everything Chopra has said about the state of her marriage to Nick Jonas since that Instagram mix up in November.
Posting Pictures
Back in November 2021, eagle-eyed fans of Chopra noticed that she’d removed her husband’s names from her Instagram, leading to speculation that all was not well in their three-year marriage.
Not long, Chopra showed everyone they were going strong by posting a loving Thanksgiving post, with the pair embracing each other in a picture.
At that time, with rumors swirling around the pair, Chopra’s mother was even called upon to react to the speculation. “It’s all rubbish, don’t spread rumors,” Madhu Chopra told Indian news channel News18.com.
Telling Fans to “Chill”
In December, Chopra was on the promotional trail for the movie The Matrix Resurrections. She starred in the movie reboot alongside Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss and Jada Pinkett Smith.
She was asked by ETimes (Times of India) what she made of the speculation after she changed her social media handles, and Chopra laughed off the situation.
“I don’t know. I wanted the username to match my Twitter, I guess. I just find it really amusing that everything becomes such a huge deal to people. It’s social media, guys. Just chill out.”
It was obviously filmed months in advance, but Chopra also took part in The Jonas Family Roast, which was released on Netflix on November 23, 2021. She took to the stage to mock her husband and his siblings, but was sure to mention that she loves them.
Latest Interview on Her Husband
Chopra is the cover model for the February issue of Vanity Fair, and during her accompanying interview she opened up about her relationship with husband Jonas.
She called the reaction to the social media incident a “professional hazard” but it also left her feeling down.
“It’s a very vulnerable feeling, actually, that if I post a picture, everything that’s behind me in that picture is going to be zoomed in on, and people are going to speculate,” Chopra said. “It’s just a professional hazard, because of the noise of social media, because of the prevalence that it has in our lives, I think it seems a lot larger than it is. I think that we give it a lot more credence in real life, and I don’t think it needs that.”
She was also asked about having children with Jonas, to which she replied: “They’re a big part of our desire for the future. By God’s grace, when it happens, it happens.”
She continued, “My priority has always been the next job. I’m a very, very ambitious person. But I think the woman in me is craving balance.
“I’m craving my family life. I’m craving being able to do things for the soul that I didn’t do because I was just ‘blinders on’ and working,” Chopra said.
Her next big project will be the TV series Citadel. The eight-part mini-series is co-created by the Russo brothers (Avengers: Endgame) and co-stars Richard Madden and Stanley Tucci. The Amazon Prime Video show is slated to arrive in the first quarter of 2022.
