A Sacramento-area actress is starring in a new movie debuting this Saturday. Monique Sypkens stars in the new Lifetime movie called Sins in the Suburbs.”I can’t even begin to describe how excited I am to be able to share my acting and storytelling with everyone at the same time around the country,” Sypkens said.She grew up in Elk Grove and started acting as a child. Her first play was in middle school for Bayside Church in south Sacramento.Sypkens recalls thinking, “‘This is exactly what I am supposed to be doing for the rest of my life… I’m supposed to be acting and helping people.'”She not only acts, she also helps teach theater to kids in juvenile facilities. Her parents Jerry and Rose Spykens always knew their Franklin High School graduate was destined to be on screen. “Well, it’s really exciting cause we see that fruition of years and years of toiling and going on auditions. Going to photoshoots and everything like this. And it just all worked out. She never gave up. She worked morning to night for years and years and years of this,” Jerry said.Although she’s finding success, she says she almost quit acting last summer.”I was so discouraged and I was so tired of auditioning and feeling like no one saw me. My mom talks to me, ‘listen you have been doing this for seven years that is nothing.’ And a month later I booked this movie,” she said. Sins in the Suburbs premieres Saturday at 8 p.m. on Lifetime.
