El Camino actor Johnny Ortiz charged with attempted murder – digitalspy.com

Actor Johnny Ortiz, who has starred in El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie and Disney‘s McFarland USA, has been charged with attempted murder.

A criminal complaint filed in Los Angeles says that Ortiz and codefendant Armando Miguel Navarro attempted to kill Brian Duke.

The complaint, obtained by People, says that the two tried to murder the individual “for the benefit of, at the direction of, and in association with a criminal street gang with the specific intent to promote, further and assist in criminal conduct by gang members”.

It also alleges that Navarro used a handgun to shoot Duke on May 24, and Ortiz – whose role in the crime is not clear – is being held on $1.1 million bail, while Navarro is being held on $2 million bail.

Both pleaded not guilty during a court appearance in Los Angeles yesterday (July 20), and are due back in court for a preliminary hearing on September 22. Ortiz could face 25 years in prison if he is convicted.

Ortiz’s family have set up a GoFundMe page (which appears to no longer be live at the time of writing) to raise funds to release him on bond, saying: “Johnny is everything to our family.

“Johnny does everything to help the community and the Hispanic community especially. Johnny has contributed to many non-profit organizations and community organizations. He is in jail fighting for his case that he is innocent on. We want our beloved family member back with us.”

Ortiz played the role of ‘Busboy’ in El Camino and also appeared on ABC series American Crime.
