Syracuse, N.Y. — Five more people in Onondaga County have died from Covid-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 626, according to county data.
The most recent deaths include two women, ages 73 and 66, and two men, 89 and 85, according to an update from County Executive Ryan McMahon. The fifth person was a nursing home resident; the state doesn’t release detailed information about those deaths.
The number of newly confirmed cases in Onondaga County continues to subside from the surge around the holidays.
Today, the county confirmed another 115 cases from the most recent test results. In the past week, 2.4% of tests, on average, have come back positive.
In the past week, the county has averaged 111 new cases a day. The prior week? That daily average was at 162, according to county data.
Hospitalizations are headed in the same direction. Today, there are 114 Covid-19 patients in area hospitals.
During the past week, the county had an average of 119 patients each day. The prior week? That average was at 152 patients.
Currently, 29 people are in intensive care units.
