COVID-19 outbreak hits incarcerated at Yolo County jail for the first time – KCRA Sacramento

The Yolo County jail is facing a COVID-19 outbreak among those incarcerated there for the first time since the pandemic. After an incarcerated person at Monroe Detention Center fell ill and tested positive on Tuesday, another 14 people also tested positive, the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office said. All 15 people were put in isolation and so far no one has needed to be hospitalized, Capt. Matthew Davis with the sheriff’s office said. Other incarcerated people who were exposed to COVID-19 will be tested every three days for the next two weeks, the sheriff’s office said. It was not immediately clear how many other people were exposed. All patients with positive test results were housed in a single “pod,” which is a large room containing many individual cells, Davis said. There were 286 people incarcerated at the jail, as of Wednesday morning. Davis did not have information on the number of vaccinations at the jail or whether any of the cases were breakthrough infections. No staff members at the jail have tested positive for the virus during the outbreak. Staff has been tested weekly without any positive cases since Aug. 29, the sheriff’s office said.
