Coronavirus Watch: COVID-19 kills fully vaccinated woman in Josephine County – KDRV

Josephine County, Ore. — On Saturday, Josephine County Public Health Officials announced that two more people have died from coronavirus, with one of the victims being fully vaccinated.

The 47-year-old woman was diagnosed on August 9th and died the following day at Asante Three Rivers Medical Center in Grants Pass.

Health officials did state that the woman did have underlying conditions, but they were not specified. 

Josephine County Public Health Director, Mike Weber, confirmed to NewsWatch 12 that this is not the first breakthrough death reported in the county.

NewsWatch 12 is working to figure out how many breakthrough deaths have been reported in Josephine County. 

The other victim, a 74-year-old man, tested positive for Covid-19 on Aug. 3 and died Aug. 12 at Asante Three Rivers Medical Center in Grants Pass. Officials say he had underlying conditions and that he had not been vaccinated for COVID-19.

Since Tuesday Josephine County has reported 456 cases of Covid-19, another new weekly record for the county. The previous record was 399 cases in a week, which was set last week.

Hospitalizations are also at their highest levels since the beginning of the pandemic across Region 5, which includes Jackson and Josephine Counties. Data from Jackson County Public Health and the Oregon Health Authority shows that 164 people are in the hospital across both counties with Covid-19.
