The Oregon Health Authority on Monday reported 846 new coronavirus cases and six deaths as the fight to end the pandemic hit yet another milestone the same day with Oregon senior care home residents and staff getting their first COVID-19 vaccines.
The state also announced that 4,475 health care workers were vaccinated last week.

Monday’s new case count is the lowest Oregon has seen per day in more than three weeks and continues an approximately two-week decline in average new weekly infections. The count is still about twice as large as case counts during Oregon’s first major peak, in July.

New deaths: Oregon’s 1,342nd death linked to the coronavirus is a 58-year-old Deschutes County man with underlying conditions. He tested positive Dec. 14 and died Dec. 19 at St. Charles Medical Center, in Bend.
Oregon’s 1,343rd COVID-19 death is a 90-year-old Douglas County woman who tested positive Nov. 21 and died Dec. 18 at her residence. Officials are still figuring out if she had underlying conditions.
Oregon’s 1,344th COVID-19 death is a 78-year-old Hood River County woman with underlying conditions. She tested positive Dec. 6 and died Dec. 20 at her residence.
Oregon’s 1,345th COVID-19 death is a 74-year-old Jackson County man with underlying conditions. He tested positive Nov. 10 and died Dec. 18 at Rogue Valley Medical Center.
Oregon’s 1,346th COVID-19 death is a 60-year-old Jackson County man with underlying conditions. He tested positive Nov. 27 and died Dec. 14 at his residence.
Oregon’s 1,347th COVID-19 death is a 96-year-old Lane County woman with underlying conditions. She tested positive Dec. 11 and died Dec. 16 at her residence.
The prevalence of infections: State officials reported 4,052 positive tests out of 56,640 reported since Friday, equaling a 7.1% positivity rate.
Who got infected: New confirmed or presumed infections since Friday grew among the following age groups: 0-9 (171); 10-19 (343); 20-29 (653); 30-39 (575); 40-49 (542); 50-59 (431); 60-69 (347); 70-79 (206); 80 and older (153).
Who’s in the hospital: The state reported 528 Oregonians with confirmed coronavirus infections are currently in the hospital, down two from Sunday. Of those, 121 people are in intensive care, the same number as Sunday.
Since it began: Oregon has reported 103,755 confirmed or presumed infections and 1,347 deaths, among the lowest totals in the nation. To date, the state has reported electronic lab results for 2,472,444 coronavirus tests.
