‘I’ve been vaccinated and I give credit to that for getting me through this as quickly as it did,’ he added.

Posting a video message on his Instagram titled ‘Announcement I didn’t want to make on my bday’, Iglesias was philosophical about the situation.

‘Not the way I wanted to spend my birthday but at least I’m alive and I have cake… I can’t taste it or smell it, but I have it,’ he said.

The comedian, known as ‘Fluffy’, now has to quarantine for 14 days.

Just a month after Governor Gavin Newsom declared the state was open again after the 2020 Stay At Home order, infections are rising again, driven by the more transmissible Delta variant.

On Thursday, Los Angeles County announced that wearing a face mask at indoor public establishments, including shops, grocery stores, restaurants and workplaces, will once again be mandatory regardless of vaccination status.

The order goes into effect at midnight on Saturday necessitated, according to the county’s Public Health Department, by the steadily increasing number of COVD-19 cases and number of hospitalizations.

On Thursday the county reported 1,537 new cases of infection – the highest number since early March, and seventh straight day of new cases numbers topping 1,000.

The vast majority of people testing positive for Covid-19, some of whom must be hospitalized, have not been vaccinated.

Though developing COVID-19 after getting fully vaccinated is rare, it is possible and ‘expected’, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

Breakthrough infections, as they’re called, are typically asymptomatic and fully vaccinated people are much better protected against severe illness from COVID-19 that could lead to hospitalization or death.

Earlier this week, former E! News personality Catt Sadler posted to Instagram saying she was sick despite being fully vaccinated.

The 46-year-old, who lives in Los Angeles, posted a selfie from her sick bed on Tuesday and explained she contracted the coronavirus while ‘caring for someone who contracted COVID’ and who was not vaccinated.

‘I’m telling you this so that you understand that the pandemic is very much NOT over. Delta is relentless and highly contagious and grabbed ahold of me even after getting vaccinated,’ she wrote on Instagram

Sadler, who did not share when she received the COVID shots, admitted that she ‘assumed she would be fine’ because she herself was fully vaccinated, insisting that she also wore a face mask during the time that she was in contact with the person she was caring for.

‘Well I’m not [fine],’ she shared. ‘I’m one of many breakthrough cases that we are seeing more of each and every day. They said ‘you shouldn’t have severe symptoms at least’ – well, mine are not mild.’

Sadler went on to detail the symptoms that she has experienced, revealing that her illness has been so severe, she has been unable to leave her bed.

‘Two days of a fever now. Head throbbing. Extreme congestion. Even some weird puss coming out of my eye. Serious fatigue; no energy to even leave the bed,’ she wrote.

The entertainment reporter went on to urge her followers to continue taking precautions against COVID-19,
