Cody Simpson spoke candidly Sunday about his past romance with Miley Cyrus, calling the relationship, “Just one of those phases.”
“Everything ended fairly amicably,” Simpson said of the pair’s August breakup during an interview on Australia’s “60 Minutes.”
“It was just one of those phases, I guess. You go through [it] and you learn a lot from it,” the Australian singer, 24, continued.
Cyrus, 28, was first linked to Simpson in October 2019 following her split from Kaitlynn Carter of “The Hills: New Beginnings.” The “Wrecking Ball” singer had also separated from her husband, Liam Hemsworth, in August of that year.
Simpson also explained Sunday how his relationship with Cyrus began, revealing it was a seamless transition from friends to lovers.
“I’d known her for a long time at that point,” Simpson said, adding, “We went from kind of being good friends to just having a lot of the same friends, to being together for a while.”
Cyrus sported jewelry dedicated to Simpson during their months-long romance, and celebrated the holidays together, including Halloween and Thanksgiving.
Following the August 2020 split, Cyrus addressed her breakup with Simpson during an Instagram Live.
“Two halves can’t make a whole and we’re individually just working on ourselves to become the people that we wanna be, like everybody else at this age,” Cyrus said at the time.
“We’ve been friends for ten years and we’re going to continue to be friends, so just don’t make it something that it is not,” she later added.
Prior to Cyrus, the singer-turned-Olympic hopeful had several high-profile relationships.
Simpson dated supermodel Gigi Hadid for about two years before they split in 2015. He was also briefly linked to both Kylie Jenner and Bella Thorne back in 2011, before getting together with Hadid.
Ali Lohan, Lindsay Lohan’s younger sister, also dated Simpson.
