John Bel Edwards is expected to possibly announce some changes to the state’s coronavirus restrictions, but the City of New Orleans says residents should not expect any changes to its ordinance Tuesday. A spokesperson for the city said later this week an announcement will likely be made regarding COVID-19 guidelines in New Orleans. The city also gave an update on vaccination efforts, saying supply is not an issue but demand is. The mayor’s office is urging the public to get vaccinated. The city said while case counts are improving, there is still concern for variants. Many in New Orleans want to see changes to operation hours for bars and businesses, but the city said not to expect any changes to that Tuesday despite any changes to state guidance. “There’s not going to be change today. There’s not going to be any immediate change. We still don’t have specific guidance from the governor’s office on what changes they are or are not going to be suggesting,” said Communications Director Beau Tidwell. “What we’ll do is take the guidelines that they include at the state level and look at what makes sense for New Orleans in relation to the data we have here and see what we can do safely.”
