Chris Rock walks in NYC after Will Smiths 10-year ban from Oscars – Daily Mail

Chris Rock was seen in New York City on Monday going for a walk, days after Will Smith received a 10-year ban from the Academy Awards after slapping the comedian during the March 27 show.

The 57-year-old comic donned a puffy navy blue coat with yellow interior over a black T-shirt with sage green cargo pants and white sneakers on the walk in the Big Apple.

He rounded out his ensemble with a black beanie cap, sunglasses and headphones as he was seen on the daytime outing.

The Andrews, South Carolina-born entertainer has stayed relatively mum about the incident involving Smith at the Oscars, briefly addressing it at a few comedy shows in the two weeks since the shocking occurrence.

The Emmy-winning performer appeared Friday at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California, telling the audience, ‘I’m okay. I have a whole show and I’m not talking about that until I get paid,’ the Palm Springs Desert Sun reported.

The Saturday Night Live alum added, ‘Life is good – I got my hearing back,’ according to the outlet.

The Everybody Hates Chris star previously referred to the incident at a March 30 show at The Wilbur in Boston, saying he was ‘still processing what happened,’ and that ‘other than the weird thing, life is pretty good.’

The Oscars exchange between Smith and Rock took place after Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head, saying, ‘Jada, I love you, G.I. Jane 2, can’t wait to see it,’ in reference to the 1997 movie which featured Demi Moore with a shaved head. (Pinkett Smith, 50, has been diagnosed with alopecia, which causes hair loss.)

Smith then walked onstage and smacked Rock, then returned to his seat and shouted at him twice, ‘Keep my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth!’ to a stunned audience at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California.

Smith, in his acceptance speech after winning the Best Actor Oscar for his role as tennis patriarch Richard Williams in King Richard, apologized to the Academy and other nominees, but made no reference to Rock. In the speech, he compared himself to Williams as a defender of his family.

Smith subsequently issued two statements apologizing to Rock for his actions in the wake of the incident, and issued his resignation from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.

Academy President David Rubin and CEO Dawn Hudson said in a statement that they wanted to ‘express our deep gratitude to Mr. Rock for maintaining his composure under extraordinary circumstances.

‘During our telecast, we did not adequately address the situation in the room. For this, we are sorry. This was an opportunity for us to set an example for our guests, viewers and our Academy family around the world, and we fell short – unprepared for the unprecedented.’

The statement continued: ‘This action we are taking today in response to Will Smith’s behavior is a step toward a larger goal of protecting the safety of our performers and guests, and restoring trust in the Academy. We also hope this can begin a time of healing and restoration for all involved and impacted.’

Smith responded in saying, ‘I accept and respect the Academy’s decision,’ according to Page Six.
