Halle Berry apologizes and is no longer considering a transgender role in upcoming film – CNN

Berry apologized after discussing the role over the weekend in an Instagram Live video. Lin-Manuel Miranda responds online to criticism that his musical Hamilton glorifies slave owners – Daily Mail

Hamilton was a penniless orphan from the Caribbean who was so brilliant — and so good at self-promotion — that he rose through the ranks in the Revolutionary War to become George Washington's right-hand man.  In 1780, he married Elizabeth Schuyler, the daughter of a wealthy and influential New York landowner and military officer. The couple went on to have eight children. She was a source of loyalty and stability over the years.  Although it does not appear that Hamilton ever directly owned any slaves himself, he did marry into a prominent New York slaveholding family, and managed slave sales for his wife's family.    It's believed the Schuyler family owned between between 8 and 13 slaves at their Albany, New York estate over the years with a further 15 at the Saratoga, New York home. I May Destroy You doesnt have time for victim-blaming in its fifth episode – The A.V. Club

Last week, I said Kwame’s attacker purposefully abused him in a way that wasn’t necessarily clear cut. For viewers who aren’t well-versed in the details of anal sex, it might not have been clear that Kwame wasn’t completely penetrated. He searches the internet for the phrase “non-consensual humping” to clear up any confusion for viewers. He tells the police officer that even he wasn’t entirely sure if he was penetrated. These details are uncomfortable, aren’t they? In the end, it shouldn’t matter to what extent Kwame was assaulted, his body was still invaded without his consent. I May Destroy You could gloss over those details, but it stands bravely in th...

MCU: Why Scarlett Johansson Didnt Want Black Widow to Receive This Sendoff in Avengers: Endgame – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

When Avengers: Endgame made its debut in April 2019, Marvel Cinematic Universe fans were shocked when Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) — aka Black Widow — did not receive a funeral after her death. The character sacrificed herself to save the world from Thanos. Then when Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) — aka Iron Man — exchanged his life, the box office hit gave him a proper sendoff. But recently, Black Widow director Cate Shortland revealed why Johansson didn’t want Nat to have a funeral in Endgame. And no, it isn’t because the character is still alive. Halle Berry Pulls Out of Transgender Film Role After Backlash – Variety

Halle Berry has pulled out of a role in an upcoming film in which she’d play a transgender character after facing backlash online. In an Instagram live interview on Friday, the actor said she had been preparing for the role, but had not been officially cast. “[It’s] a character where the woman is a trans character, so she’s a woman that transitioned into a man. She’s a character in a project I love that I might be doing,” Berry had said. She added that she wanted to take a “deep dive” into “that world,” likely referring to the trans community. However, Berry faced backlash online after misgendering the character multiple times during the interview. “Who this woman was is so interesting to me, and that will probably be my next project,” she said. On Monday night, she...

Gavin Rossdale Calls Gwen Stefani Divorce His Most Embarrassing Moment – E! NEWS

Gavin Rossdale's divorce is far from his favorite subject.  In a new interview with The Guardian, the British rocker looks back (albeit briefly) at his rocky 2015 split from Gwen Stefani. When asked to describe his "most embarrassing moment," Rossdale replied, "The gross and lopsided spectre of the crumbling of my marriage."  Gavin was married to the No Doubt frontwoman for 13 years prior to their divorce. An alleged cheating scandal involving the couple's nanny was said to be the cause, and nearly five years later, Gavin and Gwen continue to successfully co-parent their three sons together, Kingston, 14, Zuma, 11, and Apollo, 6.  The singer is also the father of 31-year-old model Daisy Lowe, and when asked by The Guardian to share when he's felt "happiest" in life, he said, "Last year, w...
