A small study strengthens evidence that a pregnant woman infected with the coronavirus might be able to spread it to her fetus. Researchers from Italy said Thursday that they studied 31 women with COVID-19 who delivered babies in March and April. They found signs of the virus in several samples of umbilical cord blood, the placenta and, in one case, breast milk. Women shouldn't panic. This doesn't mean there's viable virus in those places and "it's too early to make guidelines" or to change care, said the study leader, Dr. Claudio Fenizia, an immunology specialist at the University of Milan. For the second straight day, Dallas County is reporting a jump in emergency room visits related to COVID-19 Thursday along with 10 more deaths and 1,201 new confirmed cases of the infection. Dallas County officials said in a statement Thursday afternoon that "emergency room visits for COVID-19 like symptoms in Dallas County increased to 824 in the 24-hour period ending Wednesday night. A day before, the county reported 786 ER visits over the 24 hour period. The county added there were currently 831 people in acute care being treated for COVID-19 infections, 60 more than on Wednesday. A Missouri sleepaway camp has shut down after more than 80 kids and staffers became infected with the coronavirus, health officials said. Kamp Kanakuk decided to end its K-2 program in Lampe last week after the first few dozen cases were detected, according to the Stone County Health Department. As of Monday, at least 82 campers and staff have tested positive for the virus, officials said.
