LOS ANGELES - County public health officials said Friday they've ordered the continued closure of LA Apparel's manufacturing facilities in South Los Angeles, announcing that more than 300 workers have been confirmed with the coronavirus and four have died. The company's manufacturing complex on 59th Street was originally closed June 27 after inspectors found "flagrant" violations of infection-control protocols and the company "failed to cooperate" with the county's investigation of what were then about 150 total infections. According to the county Department of Public Health, an official order was issued Thursday mandating the "continuous closure" of the facility. Los Angeles Coronavirus Update: Mayor Eric Garcetti Says Hospitalizations Are Rising; Only 113 ICU Beds Left In L.A. – Deadline

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti began his Friday coronavirus news conference by reminding residents, “This threat is real. This threat is growing.” He emphasized that Angelenos need to wear masks whenever they’re outside. “There are lives at stake,” he said. “We need both individuals and businesses to act on this.” The Los Angeles County Health Department revealed on Friday that 9.3 percent of all people tested were positive for coronavirus. In late May, Garcetti said, that number was 8 percent. The daily positivity rate — a composite of a 7-day rolling average — is now even higher, at 10 percent, he said. “Hospitalizations have been rising,” continued the mayor, spiking as high as 2,023 earlier this week and down slightly on Friday to 1,995. Autopsies show COVID-19 victims had blood clots in almost every organ, doctor says – New York Post

Autopsies found blood clots in “almost every organ” of coronavirus victims, according to a top New York City pathologist, who called the results “dramatic.” Early on, doctors found blood clots “in lines and various large vessels” of COVID-19 patients, Dr. Amy Rapkiewicz told CNN on Thursday. But then autopsies showed the damage was far worse. “The clotting was not only in the large vessels but also in the smaller vessels,” said Rapkiewicz, chairman of the department of pathology at NYU Langone Medical Center. “And this was dramatic because though we might have expected it in the lungs, we found it in almost every organ that we looked at in our autopsy study.” The autopsies also revealed that large bone marrow cells called megakaryocytes — which typically don’t travel out...

The change comes after 239 scientists from around the world issued an open letter saying recent studies have shown “… beyond any reasonable doubt that viruses are released during exhalation,” and that they can pose a risk of exposure at distances beyond two meters. ...
