Bebe Rexha shared an emotional video about her struggle with body image around Christmastime, admitting that she doesn’t feel comfortable in her own skin.
“So it is the holidays and I know we’re all supposed to be, like, merry and like, ‘Yay, it’s the holidays,’ which I am … ish,” the 32-year-old singer began in a video posted to TikTok on Monday. “I think I am the heaviest I have ever been. I weighed myself just now and I don’t feel comfortable sharing the weight ’cause I feel embarrassed.”
Rexha, whose real name is Bleta Rexha, teared up as she continued, “I just feel disgusting, you know, like in my own body.”
The “Me, Myself, & I” singer explained that she hasn’t wanted to post as much to her Instagram or TikTok because she has been feeling so down about her weight.
“I don’t feel good in my skin, and when I don’t feel good, I don’t want to post, and that’s really honestly the reason I haven’t been posting in the last year or so as much as I used to,” she said.
Rexha also admitted that her battle with body image is coming from “a place of hurt and confusion” over how to help herself, acknowledging that she also struggles with how to love herself.
Rexha has a history of sharing body-positive messages with her fans on social media.
In June, she took to TikTok to share a video of herself dressed in sexy lingerie, asking viewers to “normalize” women weighing 165 pounds. And in December 2019, she posed in a bikini on Instagram, where she proudly flaunted her stretch marks.
She frequently blasts body-shamers and even slammed a male executive who told her she was too old to post sexy photos in August 2019.
“I’m fed up with being put in a box. I make my own rules,” she wrote at the time. “I’m tired of women getting labeled as ‘hags’ when they get old and guys get labeled as sexy with age.”
