Kathie Lee Gifford details final get-together with Regis Philbin – Page Six

Kathie Lee Gifford last saw Regis Philbin just two weeks ago, in what would become her final get-together with her close friend before his death. Gifford, who worked alongside Philbin from 1985 to 2000 on “Live! With Regis and Kathie Lee,” said that during their recent lunch she sadly “sensed much more fragility than I’d seen in him the last time in January out in Los Angeles.” “I was up from Tennessee, where I live most of the time, and of course the first call I always make is to Regis and Joy [Philbin],” Gifford said on Monday’s episode of the “Today” show. “I said, ‘Can we get together, can we have some lunch?’ So they came over about two weeks ago.” Gifford, who like the Philbins also has a home in Connecticut, said, “We just had the best time.” But after the Philbins l...

A Witcher prequel series, Blood Origin, is coming to Netflix – Polygon

At the beginning of the year, Netflix announced that development had begun on an anime film set in the world of its hit series The Witcher. Now, the streaming giant is doubling down on Witcher content in the form of a six-part, live-action limited series called The Witcher: Blood Origin. Blood Origin will be a prequel series, taking place in “an elven world” 1,200 years prior to the events of The Witcher. The series will explore the origins of the very first Witcher, as well as the events that merged the worlds of monsters, men, and elves. The new show will be spearheaded by Declan de Barra, with The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich acting as Executive Producer and the author of the books, Andrzej Sapkowski, serving as creative consultant. “A question has been burning ...

Zack Snyder releases black suit Superman scene from Justice League cut – Polygon

The cry to “release the Snyder Cut” always came from two directions. There were the fans — who prayed that an Actually Good Version of 2017’s Justice League was out there and finished enough for a faithless Warner Bros. to unveil it after enough pressure — and then there was Snyder himself, who stoked the well-meaning-but-occasionally-toxic action. The director never went so far as to badmouth the finished product, which was reshot by Warner Bros. under the supervision of Avengers director Joss Whedon, but he spent years teasing what could have been, posting set photos, fan art, and snippets of blurry footage on his Vero account to make fans salivate. The tactic worked: In May, WarnerMedia announced that a four-hour cut of Justice League would land on HBO Max in 2021. The movie ...

Some Countries Reopened Schools. What Did They Learn About Kids and Covid? – WIRED

Other countries, like Israel, opened schools at the same time that restrictions were lifted in May on surrounding communities, which led to Covid-19 outbreaks that had infected 1,335 Israeli students and 691 staff as of July 15. In Israel, schools reopened without masking or social distancing rules, according to The Wall Street Journal, and allowed up to 40 students per class, unlike the Scandanavian nations, which had limited class size. Since May, Israel has closed 125 schools and 258 kindergartens because of outbreaks. Despite the Israeli numbers, there are other epidemiological case studies that indicate that spread of coronavirus can be limited in schools. In the German state of Saxony, physicians from Dresden University checked blood samples from 1,500 students and 500 teachers onc...

Hopeless addict Depp was a wife beater, court hears – Thomson Reuters Foundation

By Estelle Shirbon LONDON, July 27 (Reuters) - When high on drugs and alcohol, Johnny Depp would turn into a violent alter ego he called "The Monster" and lash out at his wife Amber Heard, a London court was told on Monday as the actor's libel trial against a British tabloid neared its ending. The "Pirates of the Caribbean" star is suing News Group Newspapers, publishers of The Sun, and one of its journalists, Dan Wootton, over a 2018 article that called him a "wife beater". Depp and Heard both gave evidence at the trial for several days. Depp said he was never violent towards Heard or any other woman, accusing his ex-wife of lying. Heard desc...
