Blake Shelton reacts to Garth Brooks CMA ‘Entertainer of the Year’ controversy – Fox News

Blake Shelton reacted to Garth Brooks’ announcement that he has stepped down for consideration in the Country Music Association (CMA) Awards “Entertainer of the Year” category. Brooks' winning the category for the seventh time in his career last year, beating out Eric Church, Chris Stapleton, Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban, had received a lot of backlash. The singer’s collaborator for “Longneck Bottle,” Steve Wariner, reacted to the news on Wednesday and tweeted, "If you’ve ever seen @garthbrooks live, you know why he consistently wins ‘Entertainer of the Year.'" GARTH BROOKS WITHDRAWS FROM CMA 'ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR' CATEGORY: 'IT'S TIME FOR SOMEBODY ELSE' He continued: "There is no one as big as Garth, but more importantly, there is no one as kind." Shelton, 44, retweeted War...

Australian host recalls bizarre Ellen DeGeneres experience in 2013: Someone get real – Fox News

An Australian TV host is speaking out about his “bizarre” experience interviewing Ellen DeGeneres for the country’s version of the “Today” show in 2013. After several current and former employees for DeGeneres came forward with allegations of a toxic work environment perpetuated by top producers on the daytime talk show, WarnerMeda launched an internal investigation into the workplace culture at “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.” Among the complaints employees had about DeGeneres is that producers often had strict rules about interacting with her, which Australian radio host Neil Breen experienced firsthand in 2013 when he was trying to organize an interview with her while working as an executive producer on “Today.” ELLEN DEGENERES' BRAND 'BLEEDING OUT IN GUSHES' AMID NEW RACISM, TOXIC WORK...

Pixar Shares Details About Next Original Film ‘Luca’ – Variety

Pixar announced its next original animated movie will be called “Luca,” a coming-of-age adventure set in Italy. It will release in U.S. theaters next summer. Enrico Casarosa (“La Luna”) is directing the film, which is expected to open on the big screen on June 18, 2021. Disney shared details about “Luca” on Thursday after word started to leak online that the company filed a trademark application for the title. “This is a deeply personal story for me, not only because it’s set on the Italian Riviera where I grew up, but because at the core of this film is a celebration of friendship. Childhood friendships often set the course of who we want to become and it is those bonds that are at the heart of our story in ‘Luca,’” Casarosa said in a statement. “So in addition to the beauty ...

From Kaylor to Folklore: How Taylor Swift became a gay icon – Vox.com

Taylor Swift’s new album Folklore dropped July 24, and despite the last-minute notice, it immediately became something of a pop culture flashpoint. The intrigue stems both from its high-quality songs and its departure from the blanket self-absorption found on previous Swift albums. Folklore, fans and critics agreed, is a stand-out in Swift’s catalogue and beyond. Swift’s attempts to move away from lyrical navel-gazing resulted in an album largely focused on third-party narratives, which also serve as allegorical and metaphorical reflections on Swift’s own life and emotions. So, naturally, Folklore’s songs about other people are stirring up the biggest rumors and debate about Swift. Most of the album’s tales about other people also feel like coded confessions — the kind that Swift t...

Im just so, so tired: COVID taking emotional, physical toll on Houston health care workers – Houston Chronicle

As a nurse, LaTonya Rafe has developed a sense of knowing when death is closing in. She felt it the moment she walked into the room of one of her favorite COVID-19 patients, the one she was sure would beat the virus overtaking her small Houston hospital. Not him, too, she thought. The team at United Memorial Medical Center rushed in to try to save the Hispanic man in his 60s as his blood pressure dropped. Their hospital is ground zero in Acres Homes, one of the city’s hardest-hit neigbhorhoods. Rafe speaks no Spanish, her patient spoke no English. She worried he would be frightened, so she scrolled through her phone to find Spanish-language ballads on YouTube to calm him. She stroked his hand because no family was there. “Friend,” she said, “I brought you as far as I can take you...

Covid-19 in San Francisco: How Trump hurt the city’s war on coronavirus – Vox.com

On June 25, San Francisco Mayor London Breed was excited the city’s zoo would finally reopen after closing down for months in response to Covid-19. She visited the facilities, posting photos on social media with a mask on and giraffes in the background. “I know people are eager to get back to some sense of normalcy, especially families and children,” she tweeted. And it looked like her city was taking a step toward it. The day after the visit, Breed had to announce the sad news: San Francisco’s reopening plan — for the zoo and various other facilities, including hair salons and indoor museums — would have to be put on hold. “COVID-19 cases are rising throughout CA. We’re now seeing a rise in cases in SF too. Our numbers are still low but rising rapidly,” she tweeted. “As a resu...

He also likely had lymphoma, a type of cancer, National Geographic, reported citing medical records provided by his owners and reviewed by two veterinarians not involved in the dog's treatment.  Buddy’s owners, the Mahoney fam...
