Bill & Ted Face the Music hits cinemas and on-demand September 1st – Engadget

Right now, it’s not a smart move to visit a theater, what with the whole deadly pandemic that’s easily spread in dark rooms with air conditioning. That’s why Orion is releasing Bill & Ted Face the Music both in cinemas (for the brave) and on-demand at the same time. On September 1st, the film will hit any willing theater, as well as pay-per-view. Party on (at home), dude. The hybrid approach has long been resisted by theaters, who feel exclusivity is the only thing keeping their businesses afloat. Universal, which had a slate of summer movies cancelled thanks to COVID-19, took its catalog to on-demand. That included Emma, The Invisible Man and Trolls: World Tour, with the rumors suggesting that while returns were modest, the releases were more pr...

Cleaning the Dishes Is a 1 Woman Job on The Great British Baking Show – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

The executive producer behind The Great British Baking Show chose to place the contestants in a tent to achieve a village fete vibe. It’s meant to feel a bit like a festival in the rural countryside.  Rather than placing the culinary contestants in an industrialized facility with air conditioning, multiple fridges and freezers, and endless equipment, they compete out in nature, with no protection for themselves (or their food) from the heat. Yet, fighting against the elements isn’t the only drawback to the setting. 15 new virus deaths reported in El Paso — most announced in 1 day – KVIA El Paso

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The Department of Public Health announced 15 new coronavirus-related deaths Thursday, marking the highest single-day increase for El Paso County. The health department said that the deaths did not occur on the same day, but rather they received the official causes of death at the same time. They added that the victims died between the first and third weeks of July. The victims ranged in age between their 50s and their 90s, and all had underlying conditions. Ten men and five women died. The death toll now stands at 211. The previous record of 14 was set last Thursday. The health department also announced 204 new cases. There are currently 3,564 known active cases, that's 295 fewer than the day before. There was also a record n...

Why Some Mosquitoes Prefer Humans – The New York Times

Within minutes, mosquitoes, attracted to either the human or the nonhuman scent, would pick a tube and enter it. Later, the tubes were removed to count the mosquitoes and figure out how many preferred Dr. Rose. The resulting data revealed that mosquitoes that originally came from very dense areas — more than 5,000 people per square mile — liked humans more. (They also had more ancestry from the human-preferring subspecies.) A bigger factor, however, was climate. Specifically, mosquitoes that came from places that had a rainy season followed by a long, hot, dry season greatly preferred humans. Why? The scientists proposed an explanation that Brian Lazzaro, a professor of entomology at Cornell University who was not involved with the study, called “pretty convincing.” Mosquitoes flourish du...

Scientists just proved the scariest thing about the coronavirus – BGR

The World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed a few weeks ago that coronavirus is transmissible through the air, responding to research from hundreds of scientists. The group stopped short of supporting face mask mandates, however. Now, a new study proves what we all feared: The coronavirus samples collected from aerosols in rooms with COVID-19 patients are indeed infectious. Face masks, social distancing, and handwashing can protect against coronavirus in droplets and airborne spread. The novel coronavirus spreads mainly via droplets, which are particles of saliva that you can eject when coughing, sneezing, and even just speaking. They can reach other people and surfaces with ease. That’s why we’ve been advised for so long to wash our hands often, practice social distanci...

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have been considering divorce for weeks: reports – Fox News

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have been exploring the option of ending their marriage long before the rapper's Twitter rant went viral this week, according to reports. The 43-year-old rapper's explosive Twitter thread on Monday night left fans fearing for his mental health as he went after his wife's past with Playboy magazine and informed his mother-in-law, Kris Jenner, that she was no longer allowed around the couple's kids. Kardashian released a statement Wednesday asking for "compassion" and acknowledged West's bipolar disorder for the first time. West himself claimed in a now-deleted tweet that he's been "trying" to divorce Kardashian since she traveled to New York for a prison reform event also attended by rapper Meek Mill. Now a source claims to People that the pair have been d...
