‘The New Mutants’ Sticking To Theatrical Date For Now & Not Heading To Disney+; Watch Pic’s Opening – Comic-Con@Home – Deadline

While it was indicated well before their Comic-Con@Home panel when news broke of Mulan‘s theatrical pause, Disney is keeping 20th Century Studios/Marvel’s The New Mutants on the theatrical release calendar. Rumors were flying around yesterday that the horror-mutant movie was headed to Disney+ in September. This was spurred from what I’m told was a fan-made trailer posted to reddit. Buzz has dogged this much delayed film well before the Disney-Fox merger that it was headed to Hulu, but that never happened, and Disney today –fingers crossed– indicated before today’s panel that New Mutants would stick to its current Aug 28 release date. That’s the fifth dating of the movie following previous dates of April 13, 2018; Feb. 22, 2019; Aug. 2, 2019 and April 3, 2020; the last chan...

The Boys gets an early season 3 renewal, but the release will be tricky – Polygon

No spoilers for The Boys season 2, but ... there’s more to the story. During the SDCC 2020 panel for the hit comic book series, producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg showed up to announce that The Boys season 3 had already been greenlit by Amazon in anticipation of its second season, due in September. “If you like The Boys, you’ve got more of it ... thank god,” Rogen said. According to Amazon, the “even more intense, more insane” season 2 finds The Boys on the run from the Supes, and trying to regroup to fight back against Vought. During the panel, the cast presented the first clip from the new season, in which Butcher, Hughie, and Mother’s Milk are confronted by The Deep and a giant whale, and subsequently drive a boat through the underwater beast’s blubber. It’s wicked fu...

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Sue For Invasion of Privacy Over Drone Photos of Son – Hollywood Reporter

The couple allege drones and helicopters have been deployed by paparazzi to take unlawful photos of them and their 14-month-old son in the privacy of their residence. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry haven't escaped the paparazzi since leaving the U.K. — in fact, they're now suing for invasion of privacy over illegal images they say were taken of their young son in their own backyard. The former royals and recent California residents are suing because of "serial intrusions on the privacy of a 14-month-old child in his own home, and the desire and responsibility of any parent to do what is necessary to protect their children from this manufactured feeding frenzy," according to a complaint filed Thursday in L.A. County Superior Court by Michael Kump of Kinsella Weitzman. After stepping b...

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossis home burglarized – Page Six

God bless America. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi’s Montecito home was burglarized on the Fourth of July, according to local affiliate KEYT. “High-value jewelry and watches” were reportedly the items taken from the home, which deputies said was targeted because of its status as a known home to celebrities. Forensic technicians and detectives are apparently working the scene. The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office also tells KEYT that they’re coordinating with other law enforcement agencies to ascertain if the Montecito burglary may be connected to other celebrity break-ins in the area. The Sheriff’s Office doesn’t specify which burglaries they’re attempting to connect the recent break-ins to, but in Octobe...

Movie theaters implore studios: Release the blockbusters – The Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) — A long time ago in a pre-COVID universe far, far away, blockbusters opened around the globe simultaneously or nearly so. In 1975, “Jaws” set the blueprint. Concentrate marketing. Open wide. Pack them in. Since then, Hollywood has turned opening weekends into an all-out assault. Staggered rollouts still happen, of course, but the biggest films are dropped like carpet bombs. Anything less risks losing the attention of moviegoers. Global debuts north of $300 million became commonplace. Last year, “Avengers: Endgame” made well north of $1 billion in a couple days. Hollywood has now gone more than four months without a major theatrical release. While some films have found new streaming homes, the biggest upcoming ones — “Tenet,” “Mulan,” “A Quiet Place Part II” — remain idled...

Homemade face masks likely need multiple layers to prevent spread of coronavirus, study says – CNBC

Chris Delmas | AFP | Getty Images A homemade cloth face mask likely needs two or three layers to be effective in preventing the spread of the coronavirus, according to an observational study published Thursday in the medical journal Thorax. Researchers at the University of New South Wales in Australia looked at the effectiveness of single- and double-layer cloth face coverings at reducing the spread of respiratory droplets that pass when an infected person speaks, coughs or sneezes. They then compared those results with that of a three-ply surgical face mask. The researchers used LED lighting and a high-speed camera to film the dispersal of airbor...

Coronavirus in Oregon: 331 new cases, two new deaths – OregonLive

The Oregon Health Authority reported 331 new cases of COVID-19 Thursday and two new deaths. The new case totals are well below the record of 437 cases announced a week ago, but still high relative to the daily case counts seen over the last four months. The number of hospitalized patients with confirmed cases of COVID-19 stood at 165 Thursday. That’s one less than the 166 hospitalized cases reported Wednesday, which was an all-time high since the state started releasing confirmed COVID-19 hospitalizations. Comparable data before April 8 wasn’t available, because public health officials didn’t distinguish confirmed COVID-19 patients from suspected ones. Public health experts say hospitalizations often lag behind new cases by at least a week or two, because it takes time for some people wi...

He spent 128 days fighting coronavirus in a New York hospital: “This disease is no joke” – CNN

The Justice Department’s internal watchdog found that a federal prison in California, where nearly 1,000 inmates have tested positive for coronavirus, was slow to implement safety measures and lacked adequate staffing to confront the growing pandemic.  At Federal Correctional Complex Lompoc, in Santa Barbara County, California, a nationwide order to restrict the movement of prison staff wasn’t fully implemented for more than two weeks because of a staff shortage — possibly allowing workers to bring the virus inside prison walls, a review released Thursday by the Justice Inspector General’s office found. Two staff members who showed up for work in late March with coronavirus symptoms made it past a weak screening process, and one inmate who had complained of coronavirus symptoms on March 2...
