Coronavirus in Oregon: 281 new cases on Wednesday, a record high – OregonLive

The Oregon Health Authority reported a record-breaking count of daily coronavirus cases Wednesday with 281, topping the previous record of 278 set June 17. The disclosure of cases comes as high infection rates occurred throughout central and eastern Oregon. The Oregon Health Authority on Twitter cited workplace outbreaks and increased testing as contributors to the high case count and urged citizens to practice physical distancing, wear masks and stay home when feeling sick. The record case count also comes as Gov. Kate Brown addressed in an hour-long news conference a new rule requiring Oregonians ages 12 and up to wear masks in indoor public spaces starting Wednesday. Compliance with the rule will be essential in determining whether businesses will remain open statewide and whether sch...

Coronavirus curve is no longer flat in Riverside County, official says – Los Angeles Times

Recent upticks in coronavirus cases and hospitalizations have erased Riverside County’s progress in fighting the virus and the “curve is no longer flat,” Dr. Cameron Kaiser, the county’s public health officer, told the Board of Supervisors this week. Riverside County saw a sharp increase in cases in June, causing bed capacity in intensive cares to reach nearly 99% and the doubling rate of infection — the amount of time it takes for cases to double in number — decrease to almost 27 days. As of Wednesday afternoon, of the 417 hospitalized patients, 117 of them were intensive care. Kim Saruwatari, the county’s public health director, said the county has roughly 202 coronavirus cases per 100,000 residents, which is more than double the state’s 100-case threshold. Since early June, the number ...

Meghan Markles legal team says royal wedding brought in £1 billion – Page Six

Talk about a royal flush. Meghan Markle’s legal team is claiming that her wedding to Prince Harry brought in £1 billion in tourism revenue, far off-setting the reported £32 million cost of the affair. The Daily Mail reports that the new figures came in as part of the most recent filings in the 38-year-old Markle’s case against the Mail on Sunday. They suggest that UK taxpayers footed the vast majority — £30 million — of the shindig’s total cost, most of which went to security, with the church service, flowers and reception paid for by the Royal Family. Meanwhile, her lawyers contend that the nuptials were “not, in fact, publicly funded, but rather personally financed by HRH The Prince of Wales” (Harry’s father, Prince Charles). “Any public costs incurred for the wedding were...

The Bachelor’s Cassie Randolph Describes “Awful” Few Months Post-Split From Colton Underwood – E! NEWS

The break apparently did wonders for Cassie. She recalled catching up with friends, reading, attending protests, playing guitar, going surfing, re-evaluating her dreams and goals and ultimately, living "in the moment." "Life is short. We all have struggles to figure out," the reality TV star continued. "All we can do is the best we know in the moment so when we reflect, we don't feel regret. Always be learning, always be growing." To wrap up the lengthy caption, Cassie thanked her followers who have sent kind messages, and shared her love for everyone—"minus the trolls." As for how Colton's holding up, the 28-year-old appears to be spending a lot of time with his friends and family. And like Cassie, he also got a post-breakup tattoo. He was the first to announce the split, which came less...

Some consumer fireworks emit high levels of lead and other toxins, a new study finds – CNN

The study analyzed 12 different retail fireworks and found that once set off, five of them released particle emissions that could damage human cells and animal lungs. Consumers tend to forget about the toxins that are released, said Terry Gordon, study author and professor in the department of environmental medicine at New York University's Grossman School of Medicine. "You or your family is setting off a ton of fireworks, and you're doing it safely as far as physical injury is concerned, but people ignore that they're inhaling high levels of toxic metals," Gordon said. The toxins come from the different metals in the fireworks that make them turn different colors, according to the study. For example, the study said that blue fireworks can be made of copper and red fireworks can contai...
